Ridgefield students qualify for national Knowledge Bowl

RIDGEFIELD – The Ridgefield High School Knowledge Bowl team recently won the state-level Knowledge Bowl competition and will proceed to nationals. It’s the first time the school’s team, which achieved the highest score in the 2A division, will compete nationally. The team placed third across all divisions.

Like most things, the competition looked different this year because of COVID-19. Team members – including captain Jonah Kropp, Caroline Ceravolo, Micah Ross and Adam Ford – answered questions on Zoom instead of an in-person “Jeopardy”-style game, discussing answers on the app Discord.

“The state competition was strange but fun,” Kropp said.

The team will continue to work together before nationals, though this year they may be able to ditch Zoom as schools return to in-person learning. In fact, the team recently celebrated its state win at Vinnie’s Pizza.

“We are doubling down on our studying to prepare for nationals,” Kropp said.

“The national competition will be an experience these kids will never forget, even if it’s all online this year,” coach David Jacobson said.
