WOODLAND – The pandemic has had a profound impact on a lot of things, but especially on the world of sports – and programs at Woodland Public Schools were no exception. However, many sports have recently returned, and Class of 2021 graduates were able to earn scholarships.

Paul Huddleston, Woodland High School’s athletic director, put in many hours planning how the different sports would work. “The process has been endless Zoom meetings, emails, and phone calls around the league and throughout the state,” he said.

Several coaches have retired this year, including Cheryl Nesbitt, Jody Flanagan and Robin Uhlenkott.

Though some sports have returned, administrators face other challenges, including limited seating for spectators. Because community members can’t yet attend athletic events in person, Woodland High School livestreams all of its games on YouTube for free at http://bit.ly/WHS-Athletics; the schedule can be found at http://bit.ly/WPS-Athletics-Spring-2021.

Scholarship winners include Jason Bowman, Emersyn Finn, Lucy George, Mackenzi Gilchrist, Annika McCarty, Gaige Pilot, Emma Swett and Rayleah Trice.
