Letter: Republicans not what they seem

By Woody Martindale, Vancouver

I have been a Republican for 67 years and would like to apologize to the Republican Party; I have not been sick for over a year, so I will be continue “masking up” during flu season. I would also like to apologize to the Republican Party for keeping the Bible as my guiding light; I will not lie for the “party,” commit adultery, or try to change the 10 Commandments into the eight commandments.

As for your old “white racist principles,” I am going to stick with Jesus’ attitude, that all are precious in Jesus’ sight. I would also like to apologize for having a gun and enjoying it. My problem is I believe in reasonable gun control.

Regarding women’s rights, it’s between them and God. And I am not God, every woman speaks for her own body, she and God can work out the details. I guess I will apologize to the Republican Party for the immigration mess. Being that we are the greatest and richest nation in the world, I thought that we might give help and comfort.

What I would really like to apologize for is that after thinking I was a Republican for 67 years, it turns out I am not a Republican. Who knew?
