Letter: Village failed child

By Kay Richardson, Vancouver
Published: April 22, 2021, 6:00am

“It takes a village to raise a child.” That’s what they say. It’s on letterhead, logos, pins, and posters, and emblazoned as the theme of conferences.

Yet, one more time, ashamedly, we must admit that a child’s village has failed him.

Where was Karreon Walker-Franks’ village? Is Child and Family Services a part of that village? How about his school district? Are they? His teachers? His neighbors? What part of the village is ilani casino?

It seems that a child must first survive his village so that he can be raised.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
