Letter: Heart goes out to Sikh community

My heart goes out to all my Sikh friends and brethren (“Tight-knit Sikh community in shock over FedEx shooting,” Associated Press, April 18). I am a 71-year-old Jewish woman and, as such, can understand their pain.

I have been truly fortunate to have had several Sikh friends and acquaintances over the years, and have learned much about their religion and culture. They follow closely the tenets of their religion, some of which are kindness, understanding, generosity and gentleness to all. They are a loving, hardworking people who would do anything they could to help others.

My heart breaks for the grief they are feeling right now, and the persecution they are enduring daily.

With so much hatred in our country, please find it in your heart to treat everyone with the kindness, understanding and love you would want to receive.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
