PORTLAND — Stacey Abrams and Katie Couric are coming to town, virtually anyway.

Abrams and Couric will discuss “While Justice Sleeps,” a new thriller from Abrams in an event hosted by Powell’s Books at 5 p.m. May 14.

Admission to the discussion via Zoom will cost $28, and includes a signed copy of the book.

“While Justice Sleeps” tells the story of Avery Keene, a law clerk for a U.S. Supreme Court justice.

“When the shocking news breaks that Justice Wynn has slipped into a coma, Avery’s life turns upside down,” reads the description of the book. “As political wrangling ensues in Washington to potentially replace the ailing judge, Avery begins to unravel a carefully constructed, chess-like sequence of clues left behind by Wynn.”

Abrams may be better known as a charismatic political leader and voting-rights activist, but according to reviewers, she is also a compelling novelist.

“Stacey Abrams delivers a taut, twisty thriller,” Nora Roberts wrote in her review of the book.
