Columbia River scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on a wild pitch and a bases-loaded walk to beat Mark Morris 5-4 on Friday in the first round of the 2A district baseball playoffs.

The only time the Rapids had a lead was when Sawyer Parkin scored on the walk to Sam Boyle with one out in the seventh.

The inning started with Nick Alder reaching on a error. Adam Deeney followed with a single and both moved up on the throw from the outfield. Parkin then walked to load the bases.

Alder scored on a wild pitch during Casey Struckmeier’s at-bat to tie the game a 4-4. Struckmeier then walked.

Mark Morris temporarily held off River by forcing an out at the plate on a fielder’s choice. But then Boyle came up and walked on five pitches to force in the winning run.

Alder, who got the win on the mound after getting the last two outs of the top of the seventh, was 2 for 4 with a triple and scored three runs. Brett Runyon was 2 for 3.

Parkin, the starting pitcher, struck out 10 batters and walked one.

For Mark Morris, Stephen Hammergren was 2 for 3 with a three-run home run in the first inning.

Columbia River advances to play Ridgefield in the second round on Tuesday.
