Letter: Bi-Zi Farms feed the hungry

saturday letters

With reference to a recent article about the conflict between the state Department of Ecology and Bi-Zi Farms, we would like to voice our strong support for Bi-Zi Farms and make people aware of the benefits they provide to the hungry people of Clark County.

We are St. Vincent de Paul at St. John the Evangelist Parish, located almost across the street from Bi-Zi Farms, and we operate a food pantry for families in need of assistance in Clark County. Bi-Zi Farms has been a major contributor to our operations for more than a decade, donating over 5,000 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables annually. They allow us to pick up fruits and vegetables each week so we continually receive a wide range of fresh foods during the growing season. Our pantry stocks a good supply of frozen, canned, and packaged goods, but the locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables from Bi-Zi Farms are consistently among the most popular foods selected by our clients.

It is important to recognize that the loss of Bi-Zi Farms would impact our community in many obvious ways, but it would also impact people living in poverty in our community who often do not have a voice.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
