Letter: Every day is struggle for homeless

By Vicki Hibdon, Portland

I’ve been reading a lot of the articles about the homeless, and there are just a few things I would like to say.

One, they are not homeless; their building structure may be different than yours. Two, about the drug addictions people say they have: in reality we all as humans are addicts —  drugs, sex, booze, food, gambling, shopping, etc.

The housing issue is strictly on the government. Do you know that Multnomah County has more funding than Clackamas County? Yet Clackamas is housing people every day. They have the lowest financial support between both counties. The city of Portland offers nothing but a lot of talking with empty promises. The hundreds of thousands “donated” to the homeless never actually reaches them. All the apartments being built for the homeless that were supposed to be housing for them end up going to someone else.

As far as a job, hell it’s work hard and work every day just to survive. Not to mention the stealing and all crime blamed on the homeless too. Every day it’s a struggle just to get by in life. What I do is tell you about the life of a homeless person and what they go through every day.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
