Stocks were up sharply on Tuesday, with the Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq all making solid gains.
The S&P 500 closed up 95.08 points or 2.1 percent, adding to its gains from a day earlier.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq rose 3 percent — 461.76 points — and small-company stocks also posted gains. Safe-play sectors like utilities lagged the rest of the market. Treasury yields rose and crude oil prices climbed about 3 percent. European markets were also solidly higher, and Asian markets closed higher overnight.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 492.4 points for a 1.4 percent increase over Monday’s close.
