Letter: Thanks for recognizing caregivers

I appreciated the coverage of a Caregiver Christmas and to everyone at Loving Them Forward for the event itself. I have been a CarePartner for my husband since his diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease a decade ago. I was hesitant to register because, as a friend said, I can afford to buy things I need. The article helped me understand this event wasn’t about income, it was about recognition for life choices I make when caring for someone I love.

The event was at the fairgrounds, where I found a line of service providers in a shed. As they waved and thanked me for being a CarePartner, tears came to my eyes. A volunteer stopped me with a gift bag asking if it was “for a female.” I told her “No, I care for my husband, a male.” She smiled and said, “No, honey, this is just for you.” I wasn’t sure I would be able to drive home.

Thank you for your coverage and thanks to Loving Them Forward for organizing this amazing event. It was a light in the middle of a long, and often dark, tunnel of providing care for someone you love.
