The Columbian’s opinion “In Our View: Transportation issues highlighted by traffic jam” (The Columbian, Dec. 12) clearly states some of the existing problems with the current bridge system. When traffic stops, so do our daily lives. The replacement of the Interstate 5 Bridge is necessary as age takes its toll. But the prohibitive cost of light rail is not the answer. Legislators should give serious consideration to dropping the light rail cost of this project and consider building a third bridge over the Columbia River. Curiously, and perhaps I missed it, I see no stated route for light rail into Vancouver. And once it comes here, Clark County will be responsible for building it out.
