Letter: Focus on cutting greenhouse gases

By Rick Krahn, Camas

I was glad to see The Columbian come out in support of Gov. Inslee rescinding the extension for implementing new energy-efficiency standards for new homes (“In Our View: New homebuilding standards necessary hurdle,” The Columbian, Feb. 1).

As a retired custom homebuilder, I understand the challenges of unexpected cost increases, especially those that occur after a contract has been signed and construction begun. However, the industry has had ample time to prepare and we must keep our focus on the critical goal of reducing greenhouse gases. Just like with increases in the cost of lumber, the market adapts and I don’t see anything slowing down our housing market except rising interest rates.
