Letter: No reason for fireworks do-over

Repealing the law banning certain fireworks should not have occurred. As an owner of dogs and livestock in Clark County, this is unacceptable. Each year I must administer tranquilizers to my dogs and horses so they do not panic, often for up to three days before and after the holiday. Three years ago necessitated an emergency visit from the equine vet to suture my horse’s badly cut leg from running in fear. In addition, each year we stand by with hoses in case one of the fireworks ignites a fire in my pasture.

There are many reasons not to allow these fireworks, and no good reason to repeal what was already decided. Like wearing masks to stop COVID-19, a ban on certain fireworks is necessary for the greater good of the community.

The decision to restrict fireworks was made and there is no reason for a “do-over” vote because a council person does not like the result.
