WOODLAND — TEAM High School, Woodland Public Schools’ alternative high school, produced its first graduate from the Class of 2021: Dakota Spencer, who was honored at a brief ceremony on Jan. 15. The small ceremony was held in-person with few people to remain safe. Spencer had just started at the school in the fall after moving from Oklahoma. “With her goal of joining the Marines in 2021, she worked her tail off to finish in time — she worked through 11 courses, almost two full semesters, in less than four months,” said Elizabeth “Liz” Vallaire, the school’s math and science teacher. TEAM High School works to accommodate individual students’ life circumstances. “Many people hear ‘alternative school’ and think it’s a place for ‘troubled’ kids,” Vallaire said. “We want to change that perception. We have high-achieving students.”
