Letter: Set precedent of morality, decency

It’s over. The honeymoon of Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, and her vote to impeach Donald Trump is over. Her reprehensible party-line support of the nutcase Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene shows just how far from common decency the Republican Party has come.

Following the weak-kneed leadership of Kevin McCarthy, the excuse given for not voting to remove Greene from committees was because it might set a precedent of one party’s power over the other.

Hogwash. The truth is fear of Donald Trump and his base when it comes to the next election.

How about working to set a precedent of morality, decency, common sense and bipartisanship so that Congress can actually do the work of the people instead of “Republican good, Democrat bad” and vice versa and worrying about getting reelected? This should apply to local and state governments as well. It would be refreshing to see integrity in action.

By the way, if Jaime is going to run for reelection again (and I hope not) maybe she should try using the words she used after her impeachment vote: Facts and truth. The misinformation, innuendos and outright lies directed toward her opponent in the last election were downright sickening.
