A woman was killed in a 2-car crash Friday morning in the Orchards area during snowy road conditions.

Maria L. Hernandez de Lopez, 52, died at the scene of the crash, near the intersection of state Highway 500 and Northeast 182 Avenue at about 10:23 a.m., according to a news release from Washington State Patrol.

The crash was caused by excessive speed in the winter conditions, according to the news release.

Lopez was driving a 2019 Nissan Altima west on State Route 500 when the car lost traction and drifted into the eastbound lane. A 2019 Dodge Ram driving east struck the passenger side of Lopez’s car. Both vehicles slid into a ditch on the westbound side of SR500 and came to a rest, the news release stated.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, according to the news release. The driver of the Ram was uninjured.
