Letter: Vaccine sign-up is a farce

By Jerry I. Smith, Vancouver
Published: February 16, 2021, 6:00am

I wanted to join the many others who are very unhappy with the Clark County rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine. I am 78 1/2 years old with a serious heart condition and registered several weeks ago with the health department. I have tried many times immediately after noon Sunday, Feb. 7, and last Sunday also to register for a shot at the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds. It is a very frustrating experience with multiple timeouts. I log off then back on and retry over and over and all I get is a message that says “no appointments, check back later.”

I can’t believe that all appointments were reserved within minutes after noon. I also have checked with my regular large Vancouver clinic and was told that no vaccine was currently available and that it may be eight weeks before I could get the first shot. What a farce!
