Letter: Masks reveal double standard

To begin, I am a liberal nonpartisan who 1) believes that freedom of an unbiased press is one of our most important rights and 2) despises Donald Trump as a president for many reasons, one of which was his attack on the free press. That being said, I had issues with the inauguration as I watched Lady Gaga, who was absolutely great singing the National Anthem, and Amanda Gorman, who was amazing and gives hope for our future, both walk up to the podium and leave the podium when finished and walk back through the crowd without wearing a mask. Especially since President Joe Biden is stressing the need to wear masks, which I agree with, and everyone else had a mask on.

What bothers me is the press, including The Columbian, is saying nothing about this. If Donald Trump had shown up at the inauguration and walked in without a mask, the press would have been all over it criticizing him. So it makes me, as a liberal, wonder if the press who considers themselves free press are unbiased or in fact have a double standard.
