Letter: Caution signs could save lives

In light of the terrible accident with a car plunging into the Columbia River from the Glenn Jackson Bridge, and recognizing that one is often helpless when encountering road ice, I am reminded of the ubiquitous sign that appears before every bridge in geographic areas frequently encountering freezing conditions: “Bridge surface freezes before roadway.” Obviously, bridges freeze before traditional roads since freezing weather is both above and below bridge roads. Maybe it is time that such signs be posted in this neck of the woods. If changes in climate suggest that more extreme temperatures will be with us, the caution signs might save lives.
