Letter: Maintain fireworks ban

Repealing the recent fireworks ban is ridiculous and shows no compassion for pets and people with PTSD (including military vets; aren’t we supposed to care about their needs?) along with people who cannot breathe well in the fog of toxic smoke, due to lung diseases. We can’t just shut our windows: some people don’t have A/C and need the cool night air in the heat of July.

Many people can’t just leave town to avoid the noise and pollution for the week (because it is never just two or three nights). Why should we allow the weeklong display of violence, destruction, and air pollution that comes with these more dangerous types of fireworks?

Ask the fire marshal how much he supports this. Last year’s fireworks caused $40,000 in damages, plus severe injuries that led to death after the recent New Year’s Eve celebrations. As a person with PTSD and asthma who is on disability and cannot afford to leave home for a week (and why should I have to?), and the owner of a dog who is afraid of loud noises, I plead with the Clark County Council to keep the fireworks ban.
