Letter: Replace fireworks with donations

By Caleb Patterson, Vancouver
Published: July 4, 2021, 6:00am

With major displays canceled for two years in a row we’ve all been saving up for fireworks. Now with several days over 100 degrees, the Clark County fire marshal and county council chair made the wise decision to not allow the opportunity to burn our community to the ground.

There is no reason the community groups that benefit from fireworks sales should suffer. Groups like Hockinson High School band, Salmon Creek Little League and the American Legion depend on fireworks sales to provide opportunities for their members. I urge you to please consider making a donation of what you were planning to light off anyway to the local groups that benefited from fireworks sales.

Please, refrain from lighting off any fireworks you have stored away.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
