The Clark County Medical Society Board of Directors is composed of primary care and specialty care doctors working in Clark County. We have noted a decline in the number of individuals visiting vaccine administration sites over the past month.

In December 2020 and the early months of 2021, a limited supply of the vaccine made it frustrating for the priority groups of health care workers, nursing home residents and senior citizens to schedule an appointment. Now there is adequate vaccine of either two doses (Pfizer or Moderna) or one (Johnson & Johnson). Children 12 and older can get Pfizer, teenagers 18 and older and adults can get Moderna, Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson.

There isn’t one single reason the unvaccinated are not availing themselves. Some worry about the safety of the vaccine. Some find it inconvenient with their life and work schedule to find the time to get it. We know that some people just don’t want the vaccine. The goal is to vaccinate at least 80 percent of the population.

All three vaccines are safe and highly effective. We’d like to encourage anyone with questions about the vaccine to talk to their doctor.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
