Letter: Actions are discouraging

By Nancy Schultz, Vancouver

It is more than discouraging that antisemites and white supremacists feel so empowered in Clark County that they blatantly paint swastikas in Felida and tear down Pride flags in Uptown Village (“Vandals hit Vancouver bar, Felida park,” The Columbian, June 10).

I note that the swastikas (painted at Felida Park) followed immediately on the heels of Sen. Ann Rivers’ unmasked speaking event at the park the same day. If our leaders don’t agree with antisemitism and transphobia, they need to step up and lead by example. Sen. Rivers: put on a mask!

Some anti-maskers are antisemites, anti-trans, and anti-LGBTQ politically. I can only believe that Sen. Rivers is one of them.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
