Letter: Don’t ignore truth about slavery

The Washington Post published a piece highlighting the uneven march from slavery to freedom in our country. The error in the article and presently in our country comes from a political plan to revise history and not live by historical evidence.

The 13th Amendment did not abolish slavery. It abolished slavery only in parts of America subject to state law. President Joe Biden’s home state of Delaware was not a part of the Confederacy. It continued slave practices until 1865.

It has been noted in several newspapers by editors and readers that Juneteenth set slaves politically and morally free. Is this a comment of guilt or truth?

I am surprised our country is not addressing truth. The politicians, the media, the churches, the president and all of those who have the listening ear of our citizens.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
