Letter: Voter suppression is shameful

The GOP filibustered the Voting Rights Act this week. Some of them had the gall to call it the “screw the people act.” A reminder may be needed that this is the same party that has passed 22 voter-suppression bills in states where they hold the Legislature and another 61 bills are waiting to be enacted.

So which is really the “screw the people” party? The one that is trying to give more people the ability to vote or the one doing its best to prevent people of color and Democrats from voting in order to win elections as they know they cannot win in many states if everyone can vote? Free countries around the world actually have laws requiring that the citizens vote while the GOP is trying to prevent the free expression of the people in the U.S. Shame on them.
