Letter: Thanks for preserving democracy

By Ron Sturgeon, Vancouver

During and after the 2020 election, Donald Trump’s persistent lies, spurious challenges, and seditious advocacy of insurrection put American democracy in jeopardy. America owes her continued existence as a democratic republic to the integrity of her military, judicial, and election systems. If our military leaders, judges, and election officials had fallen under the spell of Donald Trump and designated him as the reelected president, America could have become just another banana republic and Trump could have become president for life like Putin, Xi and Kim.

Thank you to those who serve our nation with high character by supporting our free, fair, and secure presidential election. Thank you for supporting democracy by resisting Trump’s call to subversion. Thank you for fulfilling your oaths. Thank you for again proving America is a great nation. Thank you, that America didn’t become like Russia, China, or North Korea.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
