Letter: Clean up the mess

By Joanne H. Harty, Vancouver
Published: March 7, 2021, 6:00am

I say a big “Amen” in support of the letter from Karen Hopson regarding the garbage and filth I see every day, everywhere I drive in Vancouver (“Avoid looking like Portland,” Our Readers’ Views, Feb. 11). Driving on Highway 14 is disgusting. Padden Parkway is appalling. It’s everywhere. And tents, grocery carts are here. Maybe not quite like Portland, but getting there. Even more appalling is knowing that the people have no respect for our environment. It’s all about “them.” Don’t want it, just throw it out.

Surely something can be done, but what? Here is hoping that the powers that be can find a way to clean up the mess and make our city something to be proud of.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
