Letter: Raise federal minimum wage

I have been through a very difficult time in the last few months but still, I can feel blessed. I have a warm place to live, I have had great support from friends and family. I have food, health care, etc. So I was shocked to read that some of our representatives in Congress are opposed to raising the federal minimum wage from $7.25 an hour, less than the cost of a good hamburger these days, to $15 an hour.

We have a lot of people suffering from the inequalities in income. Many, if they still have jobs, work hard and still can’t afford rent or food. I find it shocking that these representatives, who are only mandated to work 146 days a year at a wage of $174,000, would be so uncaring.

By the way, if the representatives work eight-hour days on those 146 days, that comes out to approximately $149 an hour.
