Letter: Take steps toward public health

By Pat Campbell, Vancouver

High cholesterol and Type 2 diabetes are certainly public health concerns, but even more so are cardiologists who don’t have expertise in nutrition. They recommend a vegan diet with very limited fats and oils. You can get to this information via pcrm.org. That’s what my wife and others did, finally getting their BMI’s healthy, cholesterol levels below 150, and A1c below 6 without expensive drugs that cost more than our monthly food budget. Sugar doesn’t directly cause type 2 diabetes any more than temperature causes flu.

Before the Legislature raises taxes unnecessarily, it needs to be fully informed.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
