Two people were found dead early Monday morning after a fiery two-car crash on the northbound span of the Interstate 205 Bridge. The investigation into the crash led to an hours-long closure of the freeway.

Portland Police Bureau officers responding to reports of the crash at 1:10 a.m. found one vehicle engulfed in flames. The drivers of both vehicles died at the scene. It has been reported that one of the vehicles had been driving south in the northbound lanes prior to the crash.

The Portland Police Major Crash Team responded to conduct an investigation. If anyone has information about this incident, they’re asked to call police non-emergency at 503-823-3333 and reference incident number 21-62137.

Northbound I-205 was closed from Northeast Airport Way over the Glenn L. Jackson Bridge to state Highway 14 in Washington until shortly before 8 a.m. During the closure, traffic was diverted off of northbound I-205 at westbound Airport Way.

Traffic appeared to be flowing by late morning.
