Looking at the school construction going on in the area, one has to question the judgment of officials of the two districts. Wy’east and Mt. View are being replaced even though both schools are better than average and have no need for replacement. Evergreen has needed a new middle school for at least 10 years, and the answer is just to replace a perfectly good one.
In a competent district, construction will be in the path of growth, but in Evergreen construction is mostly in the south, which will cause the district in the future to come back to the taxpayer to make up for this incompetence, and the answer at that time needs to be “no.”
In Vancouver they just finished building a new school to replace McLoughlin and Marshall, neither of which should have been replaced. Some updating, but certainly not replacement. The worst part of this is they are tearing both buildings down. Having been the recreation supervisor for the Portland Park Bureau, I would love to have recreation buildings this good. Tearing down good buildings in a city that is sorely lacking in community centers and programs is disrespect for the taxpayer and community.
