Vancouver School Board to mull more mascots for Columbia River High School

Two more potential mascot suggestions for Columbia River High School will be considered for approval when the Vancouver School Board meets for Tuesday’s study session.

The high school’s mascot Transition Team added Captains and Purple Tide to the list of mascot naming options, according to the agenda posted for Tuesday’s meeting. The other two names up for consideration are Rapids and River, a no-mascot option.

On March 9, the school board rejected Sasquatch and Royals, two of the four initial mascot options brought up for consideration by the school’s Transition Team. The board asked for additional mascot suggestions to align with its policy, as well as to provide students with a sufficient number of names to choose from.

Once it is approved, the Columbia River student body will vote on a new name and symbol from the board’s list.

The school board voted in September to retire the Chieftain name and mascot at Columbia River High and Minnehaha Elementary. Five potential mascot names up for board approval at Minnehaha on Tuesday are: Cedars, Mammoths, Martens, Mountains and Rapids.
