Letter: Clean up roadsides first

By Leonard Mills, VANCOUVER

Someone explain it to me. Kirkland Development and the city of Vancouver are all in a twitter about the “eyesore” just east of the Interstate 5 Bridge and want to spend millions on a sterile structure because it’s the first thing you see when entering the state, county and city. What’s the next thing you see? Trash, roadside trash on both sides of the freeway but especially at the torn-down welcome building just before the Mill Plain-Fourth Plain exit.

Or, you could take the state Highway 14 exit and be witness to mile after mile of trash along the roadside. I-205 isn’t any better. Are we becoming another Portland? What’s being done about that? Nothing! Why spend all that money on replacing an eyesore while we still have trash on our streets? Can someone explain that to me?
