Letter: Senators engage in hyperbole

On March 24 I heard Sens. Ted Cruz and Lindsey Graham, in two different news clips, rail against Democrats who, according to Cruz and Graham, are trying to take away everyone’s guns. I’ve heard that statement from other people time and again. What am I missing? I have never once heard anyone say they want to outlaw all guns. I have heard that there are efforts to mandate and tighten background checks on all sales, to institute prescribed waiting periods, and ban assault weapons, but I’ve never heard anyone threatening to gather up all guns. I realize that politicians live in a world of hyperbole but these claims go beyond hyperbole; they are just completely wrong.
