Weather Eye: March going out like a lamb with 2 warm days

Yes, those rain showers were chilly Monday, and many of you saw snowflakes mixing in. Some areas had a little sticking snow around 800 feet or higher.

Mike out by Fargher Lake had snow falling, and weather observer Judy Weber one mile west of View also had snowing fall on the ground. Fortunately, temperatures were at or above freezing, so no problems that I heard of unless you were much higher in elevation.

Judy added this to her observation, “It snowed Monday morning, which makes it feel like February, but it really is March, and my peas are up and the first crop of greens growing in raised beds.” This chilly weather will not hurt cold-weather crops like peas.

These last two days of March will be dry and pleasant. After some frost this morning, we should warm to near 60 degrees.

Wednesday will be a beauty with highs at 70 degrees, the warmest so far this year. That will really feel like spring. No frost in the forecast the rest of the week, for most.

Will the weather fool us on Thursday, April 1? It better not. I expect partly sunny skies and highs at 60 degrees, maybe a few more degrees.

Easter is Sunday, and sometimes we can have a nice sunny day and other years cold and damp. We’ll have time to revise the outlook on Thursday, but right now we could see some chilly showers over the weekend. I’m betting on better weather, so stay tuned.

As of 5 p.m. Monday, Vancouver had 1.47 inches of rain for the month. I expect that will end up as the total since today and Wednesday remain dry.

As of Monday, Vancouver was 2 inches below average on rainfall. We’ll see if the April showers will help catch us up.

Last year April arrived with a few of those famous showers for the first four days of the month. High temperatures were only in the low 50s.

We will do much better this year, at least the first two days of April.
