Prep basketball: La Center boys start Trico season 3-0

Riley Fender scored 18 points, Jordan Nixon added 16 and the La Center boys basketball team earned a 69-54 win over Columbia on Tuesday in White Salmon.

Nixon made four 3-pointers and Fender made three from behind the arc.

Shawn Child scored 10 points for the Wildcats, which improved to 3-0 in the 1A Trico League.

Isaac Wang scored 26 points to lead Columbia (0-3).

KELSO 71, HERITAGE 65 — Michael Foust scored 24 points as the Hilanders held on for a 4A/3A GSHL road win.

Chase Johnson scored eight of his 12 points in the fourth quarter as Kelso held off the Timberwolves, who overcame a 35-25 halftime deficit to pull within 48-47 after three quarters.

Vernon Onick had 14 points and Quincy Gill added 12 for Heritage.

MARK MORRIS 76, FORT VANCOUVER 58 — Deacon Dietz, Kobe Parlin and Nate Millspaugh each scored 17 points, and Ashton Harvey had 16 to lead the Monarchs in the non-league game.

All but one of Mark Morris’ field goals came from inside the 3-point arc, and the team was 11 for 11 from the free-throw line.

Keyontae Cage and Tre Cannon each scored 20 points for the Trappers and they combined to go 20 for 23 from the free-throw line.

SETON CATHOLIC 46, CASTLE ROCK 38 — The Cougars held visiting Castle Rock to nine first-half points in the 1A Trico League victory.

Noah Carlos scored 11 points in a balanced offensive attack.

Lance Wirkkala led the Rockets with 13 points, and eighth-grader Trevor Rogan came off the bench to provide a third-period spark as Castle Rock outscored Seton 20-17.

Girls basketball

HERITAGE 56, KELSO 48 — Freshman Keanna Salavea scored 15 points, Alex Rosenbaum added 10 and the Timberwolves finished strong for the 4A/3A GSHL win.

Leading 41-39 after three quarters, Rosenbaum and Mariah Bibens hit clutch 3-pointers in the fourth quarter for Heritage.

Natalie Fraley scored 14 points to lead Kelso.

PRAIRIE 56, EVERGREEN 22 — Claire Heitschmidt scored 19 points and Maddie Clouse added 15 for the Falcons, who led 50-8 at halftime and rested their starters in the second half.

UNION 64, BATTLE GROUND 24 — Abbey Kaip scored 20 points, Lolo Weatherspoon added 17 points and the Titans cruised to a 4A/3A GSHL home win.
