Letter: Vancouver Lake has bright future

Vancouver Lake is all about clean water, wildlife and people, things that improve livability, quality of life, and opportunities for recreation. It’s a bold vision, a legacy project and a long-term investment which is strongly supported by our Clark County legislators, with special thanks to Sen. Annette Cleveland and Reps. Monica Stonier and Sharon Wylie.

Their strong support for developing a plan to restore and maintain the health of Vancouver Lake has been made increasingly possible by a little-noticed but critical appropriation to Clark County to develop a long-term plan.

Providing the lake with a continuous supply of clean water is the highest priority. It begins with an independent and science-based hydrology study. The Friends of Vancouver Lake have raised from our community the funds to begin this study and contracted with Jacobs Engineering, an internationally recognized firm with hydrology expertise.

These are first steps. And the journey will be a long one. But thanks to the continued strong support from our legislators, and local governments, we have begun.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
