Weather Eye: Vancouver rain is more than an inch below normal

Today will be the last warm day for a while, with highs expected to reach 80 degrees. Monday will see increasing clouds, but temperatures will stay above average in the 70s. Tuesday through next weekend, we keep a chance of showers in the forecast. I expect perhaps a quarter-inch of rain this week locally. Most of the energy will move south toward the Oregon and California border, where they desperately need moisture. Extreme drought conditions exist there, so any rainfall will help.

I still hope that as we get some bursts of energy off the coast, heavy downpours will fall here. We are drying out at a rapid pace as well. Forecast models show cooler air arriving by the weekend; if it does, we could see light snow down to pass levels.

Also with clearing skies, our outlying locations could see lows drop into the 30s. I thought we were through with chilly overnight temperatures.

Meanwhile, we have enjoyed some delightful spring weather, and I have heard from many of you with gardens and newly planted seeds popping up through the earth.

Rainfall here in Vancouver as of Saturday was running more than an inch below normal, with only .11 of an inch.

Our average mean temperature is 59.4 degrees, close to 3 degrees above average. No complaints in that department.

It is interesting that May 2018 saw only .14 of an inch of rain. Our .11 of an inch so far is close to that, but hopefully we add to it. I don’t see a bunch of rain, however. There’s a chance of showers, but no soaking rains.

Another thing I don’t see is any really hot weather.

Keep things outside watered, and maybe do a backyard rain dance. It couldn’t hurt.
