Just 10 days ago, the Washougal girls basketball team handed Hudson’s Bay a 72-63 defeat.
That game was non-league.
On Saturday, the Eagles were powered by a combined 45 points from Jaydia Martin (25) and Aniyah Hampton (20) to win at Washougal 49-39 and improve to 2-0 in the 2A Greater St. Helens League.
Martin and Hampton had all of the Eagles’ 32 points over the second and third quarters.
Two key players got into foul trouble in the first quarter, and a switch to zone defense provided relief.
KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 57, COLUMBIA-WHITE SALMON 47 — The Knights’ Abby Cummins made four 3-pointers and led all scorers with 18 points, and Annabelle Atwood had 11 points.
Lisa Hartwich had a solid all-round game for King’s Way with nine points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots.
Columbia was led in scoring by Alise Gimlin’s 13 points.
Boys basketball
COLUMBIA RIVER 44, SEASIDE, ORE. 40 — Alden Fay scored a game-high 16 points as the Rapids held off the visitors from the Oregon Coast.
Homero Anguiano had a solid game off the bench for Columbia River (3-3) with eight rebounds, five points and two steals.
