Letter: Trump damages democracy

During one of the debates in the 2016 election, all the candidates on stage were asked if they would accept the results of the election. The only one who said he wouldn’t was Donald Trump. He also stated that he would accept the election results … if he won.

Who among you would do business with or play a sport with anyone who would not agree to the rules ahead of time? And yet our country voted him in as leader of the free world. Is it any wonder that the loser now cries, “I won”? Is it only free and fair if he wins? Or Republicans win? Why did the RNC allow him to play in the first place knowing he was this kind of disrupter? What did/does Trump hold over them? Why do our fellow citizens continue to support him? This continues to damage our long admired (and fragile) democracy.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
