Letter: Help preserve democracy

By Virginia Wulf, Vancouver

What has happened to the Republican Party? It has been taken over by racists and people who want to destroy democracy. There is a civil war in this country and the cancer that is now the Republican Party is winning.

Democrats need to become aggressive in getting control of our democracy. They cannot rely on getting voters to the polls. Republicans are blocking the ability to vote, are spewing lies on social media and television media, and many are spouting conspiracy theories as truth. It is time for mainstream media to call them out, directly and repeatedly, ringing the bells and sounding the alarm so that the average American who believes in and supports democracy understands the crisis of civil war that is happening.

Please help our country survive. The Republican Party is no longer supporting democracy. If they continue to chip away at our country, democracy will be overturned in 2024. Journalists need to help our country survive this crisis by focusing and calling out loudly and repeatedly what is actually happening.

Our country is on fire and the arsonists must be defeated. Please help! Or democracy will be no more.
