Community Sports: Hamiltons claim Appletree Marathon titles

Half marathon won by woman who ran in Olympic Trials

Runners at the PeaceHealth Appletree Marathon on Sunday dodged rain showers en route to fast times.

Vincent Hamilton won the Vancouver race by nearly 20 minutes. The former Eastern Washington University runner, 28, finished Sunday’s race in 2 hours, 39 minutes and 19 seconds. The next-fastest runner was Firaoll Abdell in 2:58:52.

Kari Hamilton, 29, crossed the finish line on Officer’s Row in 2:59:16. She held off Xana Bartlett, the fourth-fastest overall finisher in 3:00:32.

The half marathon Sunday was won by Amanda Phillips, a U.S. Olympic Trials competitor. She was the fastest runner in 1:12:43.

Godffrey Rihe Mbihia was the fastest man, finishing in 1:14:53. Joshua Monda, a Vancouver triathlete who has qualified for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, finished second in 1:15:30.
