Vancouver-based Molecular Testing Labs announced Tuesday it will release a new hepatitis C test that uses dried blood samples from finger pricks rather than an intravenous blood draw.

The test is intended to detect whether the person has been exposed to the disease and how much of the virus is present in their blood. The test can be used in clinical settings or via mail order by sending the blood sample back to Molecular, the company said in a press release.

The new tests will initially be used at Central City Concern in Portland and Project NEXUS in Ellensburg.
