As I read Shari Phiel’s article “Vancouver city manager Holmes gets 10% salary increase” (The Columbian, Sept. 28), I realized this massive upward trend over the years simply puts Holmes in line with what similarly sized cities pay their city manager. Someone should poll boots-on-the-ground, nonmanagement city workers, as I expect the vast majority have not seen similar trends in their pay. Perhaps the city should do a compensation analysis for all positions it employs. After all, the council certainly seems to be unanimously primed to say “yes” to salary increases.
