Letter: Putin should bring troops home

The April issue of National Geographic magazine has a short article on the Ga people of Ghana in West Africa. A foundational philosophy of their culture is, “May strangers find a home with us.”

Part of my philosophy is from my training in the Marine Corps (and from watching many “MASH” episodes on TV): “All wounded personnel will be treated the same, friend or enemy.”

My real favorite, which I think the Ga people would love, is from the 16th century Dutch philosopher Spinoza: “Peace is not the absence of war. It is a virtue, a state of mind, a disposition for benevolence, confidence, justice.”

Mr. Putin, of Russia, should visit the Ga, bring his troops home, and be treated by the entire world as a war criminal. The Ukrainians should not shoot the Russian soldiers in the back as they leave (without their weapons).

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
