Editor emeritus Lou Brancaccio loves piling it on easy targets like Don Benton. In the interest of balance, Don Benton was my savior when I was verbally ordered not to do field visits when I was trying to straighten out the Skamania County branch of the Washington Department of Corrections. Don gave me cover until the court eventually ruled that doing my job protecting the community was not insubordination nor reason to fire me.
