Letter: Gas prices not Biden’s fault

I’m sure you have heard the term “The Big Lie” in reference to Trump’s continued false claims about the 2020 election. Well Trump supporters are at it again, but this time about the price of gasoline at the pump. They correctly state that retail gasoline was $2.40 average a gallon on Jan. 20, 2021. What they misstate is the effects of stopping the Keystone XL Pipeline.

This pipeline is owned by a Canadian firm. It was to ship the dirtiest tar sand oil to southern ports, then ship it to markets overseas. It was an environmental disaster in the making. Pipelines leak and they have spills. Spilling tar sand oil would be horrible. A spill occurred in North Dakota in part of the finished pipeline that formed a 60-foot geyser of 21,000 gallons of dirty tar sands oil, and before it was contained 378,000 gallons had spilled.

Republicans do not care about the environmental impact. They just care about campaign donations. It’s all about the big bucks. By the way, Wall Street and shareholders have pressured oil companies to keep oil production down to keep the price up.

Biden’s fault? I think not.
