Prep Highlights: Union baseball rallies in 5th, tops Skyview

Union’s bats came alive during a five-run fifth inning and the Titans baseball team opened 4A Greater St. Helens League play with a 6-3 win over Skyview on Wednesday at Propstra Stadium.

Luke Chaney hit a two-run double to give the Titans a 5-1 lead, which came on the heels of run-scoring hits from Devon Woods, Evan McGuire and Ben Lewis.

McGuire also pitched a complete, seven-inning game with six strikeouts, two walks and five hits allowed.

Noah Shepherd went 2-for-3 to lead Skyview, which led 1-0 over the first four innings. Caden Spanier and Seth Minor each hit RBI doubles in the sixth inning as the Storm cut Union’s four-run lead in half.

Stars of the day

  • Chanz Flores, Hudson’s Bay baseball, threw a complete-game two-hitter in a 1-0 win over R.A. Long. He struck out five and walked two.
  • Joe Wilcox, Mountain View baseball, allowed just two hits and one walk over seven innings in a 9-3 win over Evergreen.
  • Payton Blunt, Prairie softball, went 3 for 4 with three runs, two RBI, a home run and a double in a 12-3 win over Camas.
  • Maizy Whitlow, Ridgefield softball, hit a grand slam in a 17-1 win over Hudson’s Bay as the Spudders improved to 8-0.
  • Delaney Bollman, Evergreen softball, went 4 for 4 with three runs, one RBI and two doubles in a 10-4 win over Mountain View. She was also the winning pitcher, striking out five and walking one.
  • McKayla White, Evergreen softball, went 4 for 5 with four runs, two RBI, two doubles and three stolen bases in a 18-7 win as the Plainsmen swept a doubleheader against Mountain View.
  • Daniel Hurtado, Heritage boys soccer, scored a hat trick in a 5-1 win over Kelso.
  • Nolan Dacumos-Brady, Mountain View boys soccer, scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Evergreen.
