Does anyone else see the ethical dilemma facing our councilors regarding the redistricting map? We voted to split the four county districts into five so that all voices could be heard at the table. To make this happen we need maps that are drawn by nonpartisan and unbiased individuals, not gerrymandered maps that allow the current board to retain their seats.
If they cannot separate their own self-interest from this decision, they need to recuse themselves from the conversation. They should accept the map proposed by the redistricting committee or let the governor decide. It is unethical for them to draw a map simply to protect their positions.
